October 2021

26th:
The property crew worked all afternoon to place contractor bags stuffed with insulation through the fireplaces and up into the chimneys to prevent heat loss – this is a technique we have never tried before. We’re hoping it helps keep our workspaces more comfortable this winter! The kitchen fireplace and the caretaker’s bedroom are the only fireplaces we are likely to use, so they have remained open.

27th:
Ground leveling work between sun house gazebo and garden pavilion. UV protective curtains and new rods purchased for Records Room and upstairs den. 2022 budget planning in process.

28th:
Granite blocks moved from beneath apple and pear trees to create wall beside small pavilion. Window draft “socks” placed on sills in “winter rooms.” Five hens in the coop – down to one egg per day.

31st:
A small gathering of neighborhood families under the pavilion for Halloween – second year in a row.
