| Dear Friends, As we reflect on the past year at Vaughan Homestead, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible support and enthusiasm of our community. Our mission—connecting people to place through nature, history, and the arts—has thrived this year, thanks to your generosity and participation. This year, we welcomed many new faces to our events, including our Night Out at the Museum and the Empty Bowl Harvest Supper. These gatherings not only foster a sense of community but also support important local initiatives. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and contributors, our vegetable gardens have flourished, allowing us to provide fresh produce to those in need. Thank you for being a part of this vital work!We are especially proud of our participation in the Atlantic Blackbox’s “Walk for Historical and Ecological Recovery”series that worked to shine a light on the ways that Indigenous, Black, and settler-descendent populations are represented—or not—in Maine’s commemorative landscape, including historic sites like ours. This initiative not only enriches our understanding of the land but also helps us foster a deeper connection with our shared history.In addition to our educational efforts, we have made significant improvements to our facilities, including the building of a new trailhead parking area. This enhancement provides a safer environment for our visitors to explore the beautiful trails that surround the Homestead. We are excited to see our community enjoying these outdoor spaces and connecting with nature. Your contribution in 2024 will support much needed work on the Loop Trail where heavy rains have caused erosion. As we look forward to the coming year, we invite you to continue this journey with us.
