The Vaughan Conversation Piece: Conserving a 1754 Portrait, Part 1

Preceding the talk, guests are invited to enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and drinks and mingle with docents in an informal tour of the Homestead’s eclectic art collection.

7:00 pm: Conservators’ Talk
Professional painting conservator Nina Roth-Wells and frame conservator Johanna Moore will join curators Ron Kley and Jane Radcliffe in a discussion of the 1754 “Vaughan Conversation Piece,” a well-preserved example of 18th century portraiture not usually found in the U.S.. The talk will focus on the history, theory, ethics and practice of art conservation and frame making as related to this special piece. Part two of the talk will take place in 2017 following Roth-Wells’ and Moore’s conservation work.
